About Us
Best Medical Belgium S.A.
Located in Fleurus, Best Medical Belgium is active in manufacturing isotopes for medical use, radiopharmaceutical compounds and industrial gammagraphy.
Radiopharmaceutical Components for Better Cancer Detection
Physicians and researchers rely on medical isotopes to provide images of cells, organs and body functions. This technique is used for early and accurate detection of tumors, to locate the spread of cancer and to modify cancer treatments. Best Medical Belgium produces [18F] FDG, a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical for Positron Emission Tomography (PET). Fluorine-18 is a cyclotron-produced isotope with a half-life of 110 minutes. This radioisotope is then linked to a sugar molecule (glucose) in order to obtain FDG. After delivery to hospitals, doses are injected into patients and a PET scan is performed. A PET image provides essential information on body function. Medical isotopes are increasingly being used in health research across Europe to determine how cells react to compounds - helping to develop new drugs.
Best NDT (Agiris): Gammagraphy Serving Industry
Best NDT, a division of Best Medical Belgium, is the department specializing in industrial gammagraphy (non destructive testing or NDT). Sealed radioactive sources manufactured from various isotopes, such as iridium-192 (Ir-192), selenium-75 (Se-75) or cobalt-60 (Co-60), are placed in gammagraphy cameras. This is particularly useful for checking pipeline weldings installed underground or underwater. Best NDT manufactures radioactive sources as well as gammagraphy cameras and occupies a worldwide position in this acute sector.
A Highly Qualified Staff and State-of-the Art Equipment
Best Medical Belgium employs nearly 100 highly skilled people, from radiopharmacists and industrial pharmacists to chemists and electrical engineers. Their experience with radioactive materials, capacity to adapt to new challenges and technical expertise greatly contribute to the success of the company. Moreover, Best Medical Belgium disposes of its own commercial and logistic structures. The Innovation Department, in collaboration with several university centers, carries out important work for developing new products. In addition, facilities and equipment are state-of-the art with high-level technology, which allows for a broad range of manufacturing options. |
